The ritual origins of cricket informed an activity, titled Oblast, to address the dislocation of the former terminus of the Lancaster Canal. A ceremonial adaptation of a cricket match was held with each player assigned a mythical role and pitch position. The archetypal roles derived from characters of global influence associated with Preston. Bowler and batter were deified as Set and Horus respectively to acknowledge the ancient Egyptian origins of the game. Attired in druidic umpire coats we adjudicated, measured and partook in the game. The resulting trajectories of the ball were plotted with pegs and cord and their cardinal orientation recorded. This generated an array of anchoring alignments along which the floating volume of the 'Oblast' can now relate to the surrounding conurbation and the world beyond.
