Curator Vanessa Bartlet chose four of my survey images for inclusion in a group show entitled The Liar, the Witch and the Wardrobe in Bridewell Gallery, Liverpool. She commissioned the construction of two aluminium framed light boxes to house the images in individual frames reflecting the cinematic conceit of the show. Vanessa's input went beyond curation into collaboration. I learned the extent to which work is enhanced by the sensitivity and insight of a good curator. The images derived from a survey of woodland immediately outside the gallery which was to be cut down by the council on the grounds that the concealment it offered compromised security. Conversely its removal has since left the premises more exposed and vulnerable.
