My studio is a holding cell in a former police station. By mounting lenses in the door spy hole it is possible to capture the wardens gaze and form images inside the cell. A converted enlarger apparatus allows the image to be focussed on a light sensitive surface. Inhabiting a penitential space adds a solemn dimension to its historical resonance as a darkened seeing space.
