The 17th Century astronomer Johannes Kepler popularised the term 'Camera Obscura' (dark room). So instrumental was it to his discoveries that he invented a portable lens and tripod apparatus to integrate with his cloak, forming a dark interior within which he could map the projected night sky.
The Portent is a conceptual hybridisation of Gatton's Paleo-camera and Kepler's cape-camera. From Coleridge to Georges Sand every serious flaneur had specialised weatherproof clothing tailored for them. The Portent is designed as an aid to photographic survey by increasing image productivity in the field. It transforms from wearable weather protection to a camera obscura or darkroom.
